OVERVIEW : Pilot Phase I
(NOVEMBER 2014-July 2015)
Based on the October 2014 diagnostic assessment trip, three primary schools representing Accra, Kumasi, and the Eastern Region, participated in phase 1 of EDUCOA’s pilot program. With the approval from the Ministry of Education, Pilot Phase I focused on building student and teacher skills in Digital Portfolios development, specifically through training on using the Evernote platform. In the first two pilot months, EDUCOA worked with teachers and administrators extensively to set up Evernote accounts and to familiarize them with the platform. Teachers received close assistance from each of the school’s IT teacher and the designated EDUCOA coordinator for the region. In February 2015, the program integrated working with students to create Evernote accounts. Guided by their teachers, students created notebooks for their academic subjects and wrote in their Journal notebooks to practice writing. EDUCOA’s local coordinators followed up with the schools on a weekly basis to ensure their progress.
Activities during Phase I included:
To conclude Phase I, EDUCOA’s US Program Development Director visited the schools on June 22 – July 2, 2015 to meet with teachers to seek feedback on the program and present certificates and prizes to the students and teachers for participating in EDUCOA’s first annual contest.
